A good number of DLL remains in memory when you close an application, indeed, the failure to unload these DLL memories can save a little time in case you decide to prelaunch the same application. Needless to say that saving time is quite insignificant compared to the position of certain DLL in memory. This trick will be useful if you do not have much memory (RAM) let say 256-512. Here's how to force the operating system to unload these DLL memory to close an application: 1. Click "Start", "Run ..." then type "regedit" and click "OK". 2. Go then to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer 3. Add a new value type DWORD name it AlwaysUnloadDll 4. After you created a new DWORD then put "1" in the field Value.
If this trick from some reason didn't work on your computer you may want to try this one so you can Improve management of RAM memory. Reply #1 on : Fri June 20, 2008, 11:35:55
