How to Solve Windows Freeze Up problems

Windows X's Live recommends:
Before and after making any changes to your system or installing any software including Seven Transformation Pack, we strongly recommend you check Windows for registry errors.

There are times when the computer just stops working for no discernable reason. All processes and programs are suspended and you cannot do anything but to stare to your computer screen and wonder. Windows freeze-up are actually caused by system errors that should be corrected immediately before creating more problems. Here are some common solutions to windows freeze-up problem

Remove entries from the startup menu

There are programs that leave an entry in the start-up folder so that they would automatically load during the start-up process. Though some of these entries are essential to windows operation, some are not really very important and can be removed from the start-up folder without affecting the computer performance. Start-up entries that are not really important can cause the computer to slowdown or freeze. These could be removed following a simple instruction.

Press Start > Run, key in msconfig, and then press Enter to display the System Configuration utility dialog box. In the Startup tabs clear the checkboxes of the Startup items you want to disable so they will not load during windows startup. Press enter and click yes if prompted to restart computer.

Remove unwanted information from the registry.

The Windows registry stores too many entries than what you actually need to run the computer efficiently. Unwanted registry entry causes the system to slow down because programs and applications take a lot of time getting information from the registry. Removing registry entries that cause trouble will improve the computer’s performance and will prevent computer errors and crashes.

Scan the computer for malware programs.

Malware programs such as viruses and spyware attacks your hard disk by infecting various files and programs. The computer’s performance is seriously affected by such malicious programs. More serious problems may occur if the infection is not removed from the system immediately. To fix and prevent this problem, a full system scan should be done using an updated antivirus and antispyware tool.

It would be more effective to perform malware scans in Safe mode. To enter Safe mode, reboot your system, press F8 and then select Safe Mode from listed options. You could also enter safe mode by pressing start, then run, key in msconfig and press ok. In the System configuration utility window, click the boot.ini tab then check the /SAFEBOOT checkbox. Click ok when prompted to restart.

Clean up and defrag the hard disk

Installing too many programs in the computer would use up sizable amount of space in the computer's hard disk. When too many files and folders are already written on it, the system may have a hard time reading all the information. The process becomes more burdensome for the system if a file is fragmented. Fragmentation happens when the hard disk don not have enough space to contain a single file in adjacent location. The file is stored in the hard disk in many fragmented pieces and are scattered all over the disk. This causes the application to slowdown because more time is needed to complete an operation.

To prevent system freezes and fix the system freeze problems, Disk Cleanup tool must used. This tool helps in removing unwanted files and programs from computer. Disk Defragmenter tool can be used to merge the broken files to enhance data access speed, and improve the performance of Windows computer.
