In December 2007, Opera Software filed a complaint with the European Commission. In January 2009, the latter formulated against Microsoft charges of abuse of dominant position with the tying of Internet Explorer with Windows, and thus equip IE about 90% of PCs worldwide. According to Net Applications, Google Chrome market share was 2.84% in August 2009 for a browser finally aged only one year. Head of engineering at Google Chrome, Linus Upson told Reuters that if the second anniversary of the browser market share was less than at least 5%, it would be extremely disappointed. A disappointment even if the third anniversary of that market share is at least 10%. Internally, the stated objectives would be even more aggressive than just doubling annual pdm. Launched in September 2008 in a beta, the Google Chrome Web browser appeared in the first final version in December 2008. But as early as November, a senior at Google had indicated working with a manufacturer to preinstall Navigator on new computers. For this third beta version of Opera 10, the Norwegian Opera Software publisher indicates its focus on performance and stability. A performance that does not necessarily measure the speed JavaScript, Opera 10 beta 3 posting on the SunSpider test results lower than Firefox 3.5, Safari 4.0 and Google Chrome. Opera 10 is not the best on this benchmark, but after all the advance as Microsoft, JavaScript speed is not everything, especially Internet Explorer 8 is much more down to that level ... Microsoft has decided that from mid-August 2009 version 8 of Internet Explorer will adopt a slightly different behavior without ever moving or not becoming the browser by failure without the explicit consent of the user.

Google Chrome 2 is primarily a browser focused on speed and now its available for download in version 2.0. The stable version of Chrome 2 is precisely the build 2.0.172.28. The Microsoft Internet browser is still leader with 58.1% market share, it is in distress for several months (8 points lower in a year) and faces competition from other browsers, Mozilla Firefox in particular is in turn used by nearly one in three (32.5%). Free, it enjoys a good image in addition to better meet the standards, like Chrome, Opera or Safari which all three combined 8.6% market share. It's a bit in the shadow of Firefox which is the basis that the web browser Flock is continuing its path by claiming its social aspect.
