Once in a while I get question like how to uninstall or remove Internet Explorer and I usually advice them not to do that because IE is part of Windows and by doing that, it might cause instability to the operating system and on some software. If they don’t like IE, they can ignore it and always use other alternatives such as Firefox or Opera. As for me, I am a Firefox user but I still use IE to browse a few websites, particularly online banking websites because Firefox is unable to display the site correctly and also I can clear the cache/ cookies after logging out. I don’t want to do that on my Firefox 3 because I have tons of websites that I am automatically logged on via cookies when I access the website.
I usually ask my clients to run disk defragmenter at least once a month to reduce the amount of fragmentation in file systems in order to keep disk access speed from degrading. I told them they could easily run Disk Defragmenter from Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. One of them got back to me saying that there’s no Accessories folder at the Start Menu!
I got a new contract computer maintenance job at a private company with 127 computers. My job was to make sure that all the computers are working fine. First thing I looked for was of course an antivirus software. Every computer is equipped with a desktop version of Norton AntiVirus 2008 but not the corporate edition. This is a big mistake because the price of Norton AntiVirus 2008 for 127 license is nearly the same with Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and the corporate edition can do much more than the desktop version.
