Sidebar alternatives.....moving from Thoosje Sidebar
Well well, Thoosje's sidebar was bundled since Vista Transformation Pack 6.0 and it didn't perform well on legacy systems. Recently, it appears that Thoosje is busy with his own activities and his last month's alpha build doesn't look promising. I wonder if it's time to make changes for this stuff.
From version 6.0 till 8.0.1, one critical problem in Thoosje's Sidebar is very high memory consumption for gadget's preparation which can easily break down system's performance in legacy PCs. He hasn't been able to solved it since and now he's concentrating on developing a new software for his website, leaving unpolished works behind. I wonder if I should have faith in this young boy or move out to something more reliable...

I just did the transformation today, so far so good on the sidebar. It goes away when you want it too, and the other functions work Aok. I am totally new to this XP/Vista but so far so good

Hey, I'm new here... I have a solution for you (admin), you can use Vista Rainbar v4, which is smaller memory consumes, so it wouldn't break the system... here's the link for that program :
Vista RTM Sidebar Reply #25 on : Sun October 19, 2008, 13:07:18
Hey, in my quest to make Windows XP to look like Vista, I happened to stumble upon something called "Windows RTM Sidebar." This is actually something from Windows Vista, patched for Windows XP (or so I've been told.) You can even install real Gadgets from the Windows Live Gallery!
If you want the download, I'll send you the package.

Tried out the Rainbar suggested by gwine56 earlier..
quite a good 1.. I like it..
besides the recycle bin problem,
the icon is either too big or too small..
and i cannot drag files into recycle bin via rainbar..
VistaSidebar with Alky Reply #13 on : Sun July 20, 2008, 16:35:42
I agree with you that Thoosje sidebar is bugged and it gives a lot of problem with ram consumption. I never install it when install VTP.
I really suggest to replace it with VistaSidebar add-on created by Rick:

It's multilingual and it's created from original Vista Sidebar so it works perfectly with original Microsoft gadgets (it also include a gadget installer).
I think it's the best in its category :)
Working on it Reply #12 on : Wed July 16, 2008, 15:29:07
Thoosje is working on the sidebar and it just went into a private beta with stability fixes etc. It's taking longer then expected but he hasn't forgotten about it.
About VAIOXP Reply #11 on : Tue July 15, 2008, 18:46:19
I don't know why but I think VAIOXP Sidebar is a Windows Sidebar "Rip" beacause its internal structure is the same as in vista. Also the icon is the same. I really think you should use VAIOXP.

I am agree with jceggbert5.
Did anyone know: the Vaioxp sidebar gadgets works also in the windows vista' s Sidebar. So you can use the vista sidebar gadgets on vaioxp sidebar!!
Awesome!!!!!!
Well.. I tried on several sidebars like those mentioned above..
Some even have higher memory usage!
Thoosje's sidebar simply look like vista's. I like the fact that I can change the skin, unlike some others..
20k-30k of memory usage at most, I am willing to give it to Thoosje's sidebar because of the looks..
Anyway my ViStart takes up about 16-19k of memory..
